PONDA: The normal life in Ponda was thrown off gear on Monday heavy rains left the most roads in the town flooded thereby disrupting traffic.
Incessant rains caused flooding of rivers and nullahs in the Taluka. At many places overflowing water from the nullahs resulted in flooding along the Borim road on NH.
The road at Ganjem was flooded to overflowing of Ganjem River at Usgao. The low lying areas in the Taluka including the fields were submerged.
Overflowing Khandepar River caused flooding in the neighbouring bagayat. Due to the flooding of main nullah in Ponda, the Mahadev Temple at Nagzar-Curti was submerged.
However, it did not prevent the devotees from visiting the temple.
The Ponda fire station received nearly 26 calls, informed the Fire Station incharge Sushil Morajkar.
He said the fire personnel cleared most trees which got uprooted along the road in the Taluka at many places and however.
He said a banyan tree damaged a house belonging to Nilkant Naik at Curti causing loss of Rs 50,000.
