In wake of nationwide red alert ahead of the Independence Day, the North Goa police put their personnel through their paces by holding a mock drill.
Police security was tightened throughout North Goa and nakabandis were held at various entry and exit points at Pernem, Bicholim, Saligao, Mapusa, Panjim, Ponda and Agassaim.
Each and every vehicle passing through the junction was checked thoroughly.
As a result of the checking heavy traffic jams were witnessed at several junctions.
SDPO Panjim Gajanan Prabhudesai speaking to Herald said that the mock drill was done to keep the policemen and people on alert ahead of Independence Day.
The entire nation is on a high alert in view of Lashkar-e-Toiba threat of terror strike ahead of I-Day celebrations.
Goa has been constantly figuring in the terrorist hit list recently and such drills keep the policemen on their toes, said another officer who did not want to be named.
