PANJIM: Citing the attack on ruling MLA Vishnu Wagh, North Goa District Congress Committee slammed the BJP government for the deteriorating law and order situation across the State and demanded Home Minister Manohar Parrikar’s resignation from the post.
The demand was made during a meeting of the Pernem Block Congress meeting attended by all district secretaries and other block members and workers.
Committee president Amaranth Panjikar, who addressed the meeting, alleged that the government was protecting the assailants despite their own legislator being attacked. “BJP-led state government is protecting attackers of their own MLA Vishnu Wagh who is elected representative of the State. Home minister is not giving much importance to this violent attack on the MLA who has been raising various issues related to the general public. This attitude of the State government is a danger to democracy,” he chided.
The committee members also criticized rise in serious criminal acts of goondaism, murders, rapes, drug peddling, robberies and dacoities.
The meeting appreciated sincere efforts of former GPCC Chief Subhash Shirodkar and thanked him for his service to Congress party for the last five years. The meeting also congratulated new GPCC Chief John Fernandes and assured full cooperation for strengthening the party.
With 2014 Lok Sabha elections round the corner, the meeting decided to form new booth committees by enrolling senior Congressmen, mahila members, youth members and seva dal members for systematic planning.
