MARGAO: Expressing concern that properties of Goans settled abroad are target of the land mafia, United Goans Democratic Party on Thursday demanded that the government sort out Dr Oitlia Mascarenhas’ case immediately by arresting the culprits.
“Dr Otilia’s case is a typical case, but not an isolated one. Goans settled abroad have become the target of the land mafia, who are being actively supported by Goa police, if not by the Goa government’, UGDP senior leader Adv Radharao Gracias told the media.
Saying that Dr Otilia’s case has not been properly investigated, he charged the police for not properly putting up the case before the Sessions Court. “This is a case where the property has been sold by impersonating a dead person. The bail granted to the person is liable for cancellation”, he said, while taking strong exception to the Chief Minister’s statement for his tirade against lawyers.
“The CM cannot generalise lawyers. He should identify the lawyer and take him to task,” he demanded.
Taking a dig at the Parrikar government, Radharao said the situation in Goa has reached such a stage, wherein laws are being framed by Portuguese MLAs supporting the government. “If this is the case, the Chief Minister should recruit Nigerians in the police force to protect Goans, since Parrikar is on record saying that Nigerians are tough and the police could not handle them”, he said.
While demanding sorting out of Dr Otilia’s case at the earliest, he said they are not willing to believe that referring the case to the DIG will give justice. “Referring such cases to the DIG is a waste of time. We will not tolerate any delays and will stand by Dr Otilia”, he said, adding that only the arrest of the culprits will help identify the purchaser and the vendors.
