PANJIM: Taking suo-moto cognizance of the Herald report on November 22, Goa Human Rights Commission has asked the Director General of Police and the Chief Secretary to file a detailed report in the assault of Lester D’Souza and family at Fatorda.
Taking suo-moto cognizance, GHRC member A D Salkar in his order said, “I have gone through the newspaper report which appeared in the daily Herald dated 22/11/2018, under the caption “ROSS KADYA TEZO…that’s what cops said while assaulting Lester. Taking suo-moto cognizance the Commission directs 1. The Director General of Police, Police Headquarters, Panjim-Goa and 2. The Chief Secretary, Government of Goa, Secretariat, Porvorim-Goa, to submit detailed report, so as to reach the Commission on 14/12/2018, at 11 am.”
After the FC Goa vs Delhi Dynamos match, Lester from Anjuna, along with his parents Seby and Tina were clicking pictures near the fence. Cops and ISL security approached and demanded they stop and get out. Arguments ensued that escalated in an assault on Lester and his family. Herald in its report had also reported that a gold chain worth Rs 1 lakh was also snatched.
The assault and the arrest of a FC Goa fan and his parents have attracted much condemnation.
