VASCO: The district administration has finally decided to raze the illegal houses at Baina on September 26.
It may be recalled that last week, the Mormugao Municipal Council had made all arrangements to take up demolition of 55 illegal structures located in the vicinity of Basaveshwara temple at Baina on September 15 (Friday) however the same was later deferred at last moment as the officials of south district administration pointed out that about 22 applications by Baina residents seeking regularisation of illegal structures are pending and hence the demolition was kept in abeyance until the applications are disposed.
Interestingly in a new order issued on September 18, Deputy Collector Uday Prabhu pointed out that the demolition of 55 structures at Baina was deferred till the pending application of the affected parties for the regularisation of illegal structures are disposed of. He, however, also pointed out that the authorized officer has reported to him that all 22 applications for regularisation of illegal structures were rejected. Meanwhile, citizens raised eyebrows at the way officials who deferred the demolition on last Friday changed their stand on Monday by rectifying earlier order giving an explanation that all 22 applications by Baina residents seeking regularisation of illegal structures were rejected, while the applicants are still unaware as to why and when their applications were rejected.
