CANACONA: Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes wished all success to the sprint queen of Canacona, Ms Perpetua Jaques on the eve of her departure to represent India at 20th Asian Masters Athletic championship 2017 to be held in Rugao, Jiangsu, China later this month.
After a preparation of over two months which included strenuous workouts, Ms Jaques fondly called ‘Butterfly’ by her peers is all geared up to fly to China where she will be participating in 100 and 200 Mts sprints in 70-plus category.
Herald had carried an exclusive report on front page of the edition dated March 8 this year, of her achievements in different fields and also in athletics wherein she had received silver medals for securing 2nd place at all India masters meet for 70-plus category in 100 and 200 Mts events at a national event held at Hyderabad, Telangana earlier this year.
Ms Jaques has been selected along with Ms Colleen Sequeira (35-plus category) in high jump, Ms Agnes Dias (45-plus category) in long jump, Pedro Colaco (45-plus category) in 400 mts hurdles, Ms Regina Dourado (50-plus category) in 400 and 800 mts and are all set to fly to China on September 22 early morning via Mumbai by Air India flight accompanied by officials of Masters Athletic Federation of India for taking part in various sporting events.
The participants have been training at facility at Bambolim under coach Devi Gaonkar.
Ms Jaques said, “All of the participants and our coach Devi Gaonkar have put in lot of efforts during coaching sessions and we are looking forward to bring medals from China.”
