Mapusa: Laterite stone quarries operating illegally in Camurlim village were raided on Friday.
A joint raid by Bardez Mamlatdar Pravin Gawas, officials of the Mines Department, Colvale Police and PWD officials was carried out in Survey no. 151/0 and Survey no. 139/0 of Camurlim village in Bardez taluka. During the raid, it was found that three large laterite stone quarries were operating illegally.
Sources said that machinery such as a stone cutting power tiller, horizontal laterite stone cutting machine and generators were found on the site, along with quarried stones, which were all seized during the panchanama.
Directions were also given to the Assistant Engineer, PWD (roads) to transfer the seized machinery to the safe custody of the Colvale police station.
