PANJIM: With many questions about the prime conspirator in the St Cruz attack Zenito Cardozo continue to remain unanswered; the Old Goa Police filed a charge sheet against him and 13 attackers in the case.

Around 400-page charge sheet has been filed before the magistrate in a record time that also includes Cardozo as an accused for attempted murder, the man who succeeded to remain underground until he finally surrendered himself at police head quarters on August 12. Sources said while 14 accused have been charge sheeted, the investigating team will file a supplementary charge sheet against the remaining six accused while a report against three juveniles is already submitted before the Juvenile Justice Board.

The charge sheet was filed on August 18 while Cardozo was in police custody.

Outgoing Inspector General of Police Jaspal Singh, in his farewell interview with Herald, had applauded the SP for “painstakingly working on the case.”

With the matter scheduled for hearing on September 1, the Old Goa Police claimed they have recovered one pistol, two revolvers, four swords and two choppers after the attack on Imran Bepari. The statements of 25 witnesses are recorded in support of the case.

The incident brought under scanner the functioning of the Old Goa Police while the role of few others within the department is also being questioned.
