PANJIM: The Goa Government on Thursday informed Centre about its commitment to provide 100 percent tap water connections to all households by year-end.

Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant attended the video conference meeting chaired by Union Minister for Jal Shakti Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Minister for State for Jal Shakti Rattan Lal Kataria.
“Reiterated Goa’s commitment to provide regular supply of safe drinking water and 100 percent tap connections to all households in the State within year 2020,” Sawant tweeted after the meeting.
Earlier in June, Shekhawat had written a letter to the Chief Minister and expressed happiness that the State is planning to provide 100 per cent Functional Household Tap Connections in rural areas by 2021.
Out of two lakh 60 thousand households in the State, two lakh 29 thousand households have already been provided with household tap connections. The aim of this mission is to provide potable drinking water to every rural household through Functional Household Tap Connections by 2024.
Goa will be one of first few States to achieve the feat and become 100 per cent Har Ghar Jal State. The fund allocation to Goa in 2020-21 has been increased from around Rs three crore to over Rs 12 crore.
