CANACONA: A highly decomposed carcass of an Olive Ridley turtle was washed ashore at Rajbagh beach, Canacona on Monday morning.
After receiving information from a local resident, the officials of the Wildlife Rescue Centre, Hathipaul in Partagal visited the site and conducted panchanama.
The doctors from Animal Husbandry conducted the post mortem which established that the turtle may have been hit by a propeller of a boat operating in the area.
Authorities said the main reason for carcasses of Olive Ridleys to be washed ashore is due to loss of habitats, trawling and adventure sports activities, pollution caused by industries and ingestion of plastic. The wildlife rescue team buried the carcass at a safe place along the beach.
