On high horse, Churchill & Vijai slam Congress MLAs, BJP

MARGAO: Former Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai criticised both the BJP and those Congress MLAs who were planning on defecting to the BJP.

Alemao and Sardesai were present for a cultural programme and were speaking to media persons on the sidelines.

“If what you are saying does happen (the defection), then this will make sure that there is no proper Opposition. The Assembly is about to start but there will be no charm in it as the issues are to be raised by the Opposition MLAs and if the Opposition MLAs are only jumping to the other side, what will happen to the issues,” said Alemao.

Alemao also recalled his days with the Congress and said the party had a much stronger leadership then even in terms of the people within the party who were put in charge of Goa compared to the present Congress leadership.

He also said Calangute MLA Michael Lobo coming from another party and becoming the Leader of Opposition would have naturally created friction amongst the Goa Congress, while hinting at how former Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat would have felt by that decision.

GFP president Vijai Sardesai questioned the commitment of the State government, who he said seems to be more interested in getting Opposition MLAs into its party rather than focusing on helping Goans  suffering due to the floods.
