MAPUSA: Calangute police arrested one Anton Paul Britto, (47), a resident of Ashvem, Pernem for abusing and obstructing the police staff while they were carrying out vehicle checking in Calangute at Agarwado.
PI Jivba Dalvi said that police staff was performing normal vehicle checking at Agarwado, Calangute to challan the defaulters. And when Britto was stopped for not wearing helmet, he started arguing and abusing the police staff and started provoking the police staff thereby breaking the public peace. He also snatched his driving licence from the hands of the police. When requested to calm down he hurled abuses towards the police, began threatening them and then started obstructing the staff from doing their duty.
During investigation, police learnt that, the accused is an ex-police constable who resigned from the department in 2007.
Accused is also having a criminal background and is facing trial in an attempt to murder case registered in 2012 at Pernem Police Station. Police are verifying the antecedents of the accused.
