One arrested for threatening another at gunpoint

MAPUSA: Panic gripped Candolim after two natives of North India threatened a youth with dire consequences at gun point on Thursday.

Calangute police arrested Sushil Jai Bhagwan (27), a native of Haryana on the charge of threatening one Guru Chavan at gun point.

The police also recovered two country made pistols, along with two rounds and are on the lookout for Bhagwan’s accomplice.

According to the police, the incident occurred on the fourth floor of a residency at Candolim when both the accused pointed a pistol at Chavan (40), a resident of Orda-Candolim and threatened to kill him.

After the complainant raised an alarm, the accused fled from the spot. However, the locals chased them and caught Bhagwan and handed him over to the police.

A video also went viral on social media wherein Bhagwan was seen claiming that he hails from Delhi and for the last two days he was staying on the terrace of the building.

However, the police have ruled out any firing and suspect that the complainant was assaulted with a butt of country made pistol. 

A case against the accused under Section 324 and 506 (ii) read with 34 IPC and under Section 3 read with 25 of Arms Act 1959 ha been registered and PSI Rajaram Bagkar is conducting investigations under the guidance of Calangute PI Nolasco Raposo.

Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition Digambar Kamat condemned the firing incident and urged Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai to immediately intervene before it is too late.

Kamat tweeted, “Just two days back after Congress Party urged Governor to dismiss the BJP government on collapse of law and order in Goa, shocking report comes of firearms and bullets found in Calangute during a street fight. Once again urge Governor to intervene before it is too late.”
