Sanguem Judicial Magistrate First Class Aartikumari Naik convicted one Flossy Fernandes for rash and negligent driving and for causing simple injuries to the victim.
The accused was fined Rs 1000 for an offence under Section 279, Rs 500 for an offence under Section 337 and Rs 1000 for an offence under Section 134 of IPC.
According to the prosecution, Bhagwant Nayak and his son were on a motorcycle travelling from Rivona to Margao on April 3, 2008 at about 8.40 am, when they were knocked down by the accused at Rivona.
The prosecution claimed that the accused ran away from the spot without giving any medical attention to the injured and without informing the police.
After going through the investigation led by the prosecution and the Investigating Officer Arvind Narvekar, the court convicted the accused.
APP Govind S Gaonkar examined seven witnesses in the matter and also argued the matter on behalf of the prosecution.
