One more mining firm pays stamp duty

Even as the decision regarding extension of date for payment of stamp duty on mining leases is still pending, Madachem Bat Mines Pvt Ltd has paid its stamp duty of some Rs 50 lakh odd on March 6.

PANJIM: Even as the decision regarding extension of date for payment of stamp duty on mining leases is still pending, Madachem Bat Mines Pvt Ltd has paid its stamp duty of some Rs 50 lakh odd on March 6. 

The exchequer is expecting some Rs 294 crore in the first phase of mining lease renewals that do not require forest clearance according to government.

Goa government had amended the Stamp Duty Act recently charging 15 per cent duty on the amount of projected royalty for over 20 years. Mining leases of around 337 mines expired in 2007 and have now applied for renewal.
