MARGAO: Congress candidate for South Goa seat Reginaldo Lourenco made a fervent plea to all political parties wedded to secular and tolerant thoughts
to unite under the Congress banner, while accepting the responsibility cast on him
by the party to contest the April 12 poll.
Given the huge task lying ahead of him, Reginaldo has sought blessings of the PCC president, PCC Office bearers, senior leaders of the party and chiefs of frontal organizations, Opposition leader, party MLAs, MPs, ex-MLAs, ex-MPs, ZPs, sarpanchas, panchayat members and all grassroots level workers of the party, besides office bearers, leaders of all secular-minded parties and independent MLAs who are committed to secular ideology and are against fascist and communal forces.
“As a loyal soldier of the party, I humbly accept the responsibility of contesting the South Goa Parliamentary Constituency which my party has given me in spite of not lobbying for the ticket”, he told the media after his name was cleared by the Congress party in Delhi on Tuesday.
Saying that the people of Goa who are inherently secular, tolerant and peace loving cannot be let down, he said the only issue at this moment is Modi and the need of the hour is for all to ensure that Hitlers don’t get political legitimacy whether here in Goa or at the centre.
“People of Goa will not forgive us if we fail to unite now”, he said.
