PANJIM: Talathis were on Monday ordered to inspect and report hill cutting exercises and construction activities and other works within their jurisdiction which are carried out in continuous manner, including on Saturdays, Sundays and on holidays.

The order has also asked the Talathis to submit a consolidated report regarding the illegalities to the Collector immediately thereafter. Recently, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant had said that landslide-prone hills will be identified and the government will also take the help of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in identifying landslide-prone areas.
“Hill cutting should be stopped in the state to avoid loss of lives, and properties due to landslides and related natural disasters. A monitoring system is to be established under the District Collector to curb the illegal hill cutting, and Mamlatdars and Police Inspectors are to be the members. Talathi will be responsible for informing about the illegal activities in his jurisdiction, according to which the authority shall act,” he said.
