PANJIM: Opposition MLAs have criticised the State’s government move to notify amended Motor Vehicle (MC) Act, which will see the imposition of steep penalties for various traffic offences.

The Act will be implemented shortly despite the general public raising objections to the same in the past.

Leader of Opposition Digamar Kamat posted on Facebook, saying, “Bankrupt BJP government which has failed to provide proper motorable roads, infrastructure and traffic management now increases fines for traffic violations further pushing common man into financial disaster. Will Chief Minister take responsibility of casualties and fatal accidents due to bad infrastructure? The government must immediately put on hold implementation of the new notification or be ready to face agitation.”

Independent Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte also tweeted, saying, “NewMotorVehicleAct: #GoaGovt to penalise Motorists for driving on non-motorable roads! Fines should be imposed only after providing basic road safety and amenities. @BJP4Goa is trying to fill back government coffers emptied by their greed!”
