VASCO: GPCC vice-president Sankalp Amonkar to declare the party-backed panel of candidates for Mormugao municipal polls on Wednesday after 21 candidates had withdrawn their nominations on Tuesday which includes three prominent aspirants from Mormugao Constituency.
Amonkar revealed to reporters that party has backed candidates in all the 9 wards of Mormugao Constituency to contest the upcoming municipal election.
When asked why his supported candidates have withdrawn nominations, Amonkar said that in some wards of Mormugao constituency his supporters and well wishers had filed for nominations and this would have led to splitting of votes therefore some of his supporters chose to withdraw nominations and extended support to him.
Samir Khan from ward no. 7, Umesh Mandrekar from ward no. 3 and Sarvesh Hoble from ward no. 5 withdrew their nominations. Meanwhile, Dy Collector of Mormugao, Sachin Desai informed now there are 112 candidates in the fray.
