PORVORIM: When Kerala had denotified 10 rivers from being nationalized, why did the Goa govt not raise a single protest to protect fishermen’s interest? Alleging that State BJP govt had sold the Goan rivers to the Centre, Opposition members rushed to the well of the House on Friday.
They said that though the Digambar Kamat Congress government and Manohar Parrikar BJP govt had opposed nationalization of river, it was Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar in 2014, who agreed to nationalization of 6 Goans rivers.
Environment Minister Aleixo Sequeira argued that nationalization was inevitable under the Inland Waterways Act.
Environment Minister Aleixo Sequeira also argued that there was a MoU between the Centre, Captain of Ports and MPT which protected the Govt of Goa interests and rights of the rivers were vested in the Captain of Ports and Govt of Goa can propose projects which will be financed by the Centre.
