PANJIM: The government issued orders on Wednesday to seize 1.22 million tones of ore, said to be lying unclaimed and not declared in the returns of any of the monthly statements of mining companies, officials said.
During the October 31 hearing in the Supreme Court on illegal mining, the Attorney General had informed the Court that there were 11.56 million tonnes of ore lying around the State of Goa.
The next affidavit told the Court that the amount had gone up to 15.46 million tonnes. And 1.22 million tonnes of ore had been found without disclosure of the same in monthly or annual returns, and was therefore completely illegal. Another 2.68 million tonnes was also found at different locations and it was not reflected in the returns of any company for being sold to traders.
