MARGAO: The order on the bail application moved by rape accused Gulshan Ahmed has been posted to March 9 by Additional Sessions Judge Dvijple Patkar, who heard the arguments on Friday.
Gulshan is accused of raping a 20-year-old girl from Curchorem at a hotel in Palolem, Canacona on March 2.
The prosecution argued that Gulshan lured the girl, who comes from an economically weak family, by promising to introduce her to an agent who would arrange a job for her abroad and then took her to a room in a hotel at Palolem where he raped her.
However, Gulshan’s lawyer argued that it was a trap fabricated by the girl only to extract some money from the accused and asserted that the girl had willingly gone with the accused all the way to Palolem.
“Nobody is naïve nowadays and girls know very well what the intentions of a male person are,” the defense lawyer argued, questioning why the police did not produce the CCTV recording from the hotel or other neighbouring cameras.
Besides, he pointed out that the receptionist’s statement has not been recorded. He argued that the accused and the victim went to the reception of the hotel posing as a couple and this fact, he said, the receptionist would disclose because of which she has not been examined.
After hearing the arguments, the judge has now posted the matter for order on March 9. Incidentally, besides the State arguing the matter, the victim has also joined in as an intervener and is represented by Adv A Colaco.
