PORVORIM: Former Moira sarpanch Oswald Cordeiro, who was voted out of office, has strongly refuted the baseless allegations made against him by the opposition.
Cordeiro has responded to the three charges made against him by the opposition. “With regard to the charge that I was not taking the panchayat members into confidence while transacting panchayat business, all the transactions are based on a resolution passed in the fortnightly meeting and no business of the panchayat can be transacted without the matter being discussed and resolution passed by the members in the meeting.”
“The minutes book will reveal that some members have never participated in any discussion and most of the time absent for the meeting and when they attend it’s only to mark attendance to avoid disqualification.”
“Allegation that interest in the panchayat development works is totally false and in fact last year I secured highest GlA funds for the panchayat compared to previous years and among most panchayats for different developmental works which may be proved from the panchayat’s records.”
“In addition, works have been carried out by PWD like roads, retaining walls, etc, and many more have already been tendered which will start soon. Also, land acquisition process to set up garbage treatment plant was almost in final stages.”
He said that keen interest was taken while implementing several welfare schemes of the State and central government and he has gone out of his way to carry out all the necessary formalities for the applicants.
Responding to another allegation that had no time to attend to the villagers’ difficulties/grievances, the ex-sarpanch strongly denied the charge saying: “I have been attending the panchayat office on daily basis to solve people’ grievances and even going to the extent of helping people by attending to their difficulties and grievances from the residence.” He said that his services were available 24 hours for the people of Moira.
