CURCHOREM: A huge tree came crushing down on Tilamol-Quepem road on Tuesday just opposite to Quepem forest office, disrupting traffic for several hours. Later, Curchorem Fire and Emergency Services (CFES) reached the site and cleared the road.

“Today we attended all the calls and cleared all the cases including some yesterday’s cases which remained unattended due to darkness,” said fire station official.
He said that luckily, there were no major damages to any houses barring minor damage to one house causing a loss of around Rs 20,000 on which some branches had fallen, which were later cleared by the fire personnel.
According to Assistant Engineer JNR Swamy, around four poles are damaged and snapped electrical wires at many places causing a loss of around Rs 50,000 which were later restored at some places and at some places the work was still going on till late evening.
Meanwhile, some residents from Curchorem-Quepem area are worried due to non availability of cable TV as the cables are cut or disconnected at many places due to falling of tress/branches on the cable line during the rain and strong wind on Monday night.
“We are worried due to cable cut frequently due to rain and wind as we are very much anxious to watch FIFA world cup.” said a Quepem resident and urged the cable operator to restore the line immediately.
