SANGUEM: The incomplete construction of the mining bypass road from Uguem to Guddemoll is reported to have inundated paddy fields, forcing farmers at Borkottegall and other surrounding areas in Uguem-Sanguem to keep transplantation operations in paddy fields on hold.
Affected farmers told Herald that due to the incomplete work of the bypass, the rivulets have been filled with mud at many places, causing water to flow into the roadside paddy fields.
Almost all paddy fields are now inundated and despite it being time for transplantation, the farmers have to keep their operations on hold due to excess water.
“Moreover with water flowing with great force into the paddy fields, the seeds have been washed away leaving the farmers with no seeds for transplantation,” claimed a farmer, Antonio Silva, from Uguem.
The farmers have urged the agriculture department and also the Goa Infrastructure Development Corporation to rectify the problem caused due to the incomplete project work of by-pass road at Uguem.
