Padosem daily wage workers demand better pay, benefits

PORVORIM, JUNE 4 The daily-wage workers at Padosem water treatment plant on Friday afternoon confronted Porvorim Executive Engineer K H Kamaladinni and threatened to suspend work from June 7, if they are not given the pay scale and facilities which are being offered to government employees.

The daily-wage workers at Padosem water treatment plant on Friday afternoon confronted Porvorim Executive Engineer K H Kamaladinni and threatened to suspend work from June 7, if they are not given the pay scale and facilities which are being offered to government employees.
Speaking to Herald, Executive Engineer Kamaladinni informed that PWD has tendered the work of supplying 35 workers at water treatment plant at Padosem to contractor M Dharwadker.
“The Padosem water treatment plant is supplying water to Bicholim and Bardez talukas. These workers are being paid daily wages by the contractor as per the rules of Minimum Wages Act,” said Kamaladinni.

“As per the tender, it is the duty of the contractor to supply 35 labourers at Padosem and attend to the problem of his workers. Since the matter does not come under my jurisdiction, I have advised the workers to approach the higher authorities or the PWD minister,” said Kamaladinni.
