The hoteliers on the beach had observed that the high beam lamps mounted on top of the mast were not functioning and that the fittings were slowly gliding from the top but there was nobody to complain because it is not the peak season for tourism.
On Friday due to heavy rains the light fittings which were loosened due to rusting of the assembly fittings slowly began to make its descent and the electricity department personnel were called who promptly disconnected the power supply to the installation.
When the executive engineer of Electricity department Santosh Lolayekar was contacted, he said that the Tourism department had installed the illumination assembly and that his department had written to them about the things to come some months ago.
