PANJIM: The State government has constituted a three-member committee to expedite, monitor and ensure timely completion of the South Goa district hospital. The project is expected to be completed by May 2018.
The committee consists of Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai and Managing Director of Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) Srinet Kothwale. GSIDC is the nodal agency for execution of the project.
The committee has to meet regularly and monitor the construction progress. “The Committee will also guide and make suggestions to GSIDC in matters relating to construction, as also guide the authorities on the issue relating to the functioning of the hospital so as to make it fully operational in a time bound manner,” the order issued by Under Secretary (Finance) Bevinda Monteiro e Dias, states.
Sources said that 70 percent work of the project is complete while the balance is expected to be completed before May 31, 2018. The scope of the work, which was started in 2008, was changed three times between 2007 and 2012.
The non-completion of the hospital had come under scanner of Comptroller Auditor General, for idle investment of Rs 68.76 crore since 2008.
The proposed building will consist of three-floor district hospital, nursing college, mortuary building and utility building. The hospital will have 21 OPD clinics, casualty with minor operation theatre, diagnostics, imaging, physiotherapy, blood bank, laboratory CSSD (Central Supply Stores Department), IPD kitchen etc on the ground floor.
The first floor will have seven operation theatres with pre & post-operative room, surgery IPD ward, burns ward, prisoners’ ward etc. The second floor will have administrative block, 3 OT, obstetrics, gynaecology and paediatric IPD wards, NICU (neonatal intensive care unit), PICU (paediatrics intensive care unit) and that the third floor will house MICU, ICU, dialysis, psychiatry, medicine, IPD wards.
