Panjim Police nab 2 Gujaratis for selling fake jewellery

A case has been registered against both the accused under Section 420 of IPC and the police are conducting further investigations.

PANJIM: The Panjim Police arrested two persons hailing from Gujarat and recovered Rs 12.44 lakh worth of stolen gold from them.

The accused identified as Keshubai Parmar (32) and Mukeshbai Parmar (26), both from Porbandar, Gujarat had sold fake jewellery at a Jewellery shop in the city for Rs 12,44,361.

As per the complaint filed by jewellery shop owner Nikunj Gupta, three unknown persons including a woman came at his shop situated at M G Road, Panjim on Sunday as customers and said that they wanted to sell their old gold jewellery. 

Once the deal was finalised, they took new gold jewellery valued at Rs 12,44,361 in exchange and left the shop. Upon checking the jewellery by melting and testing it was revealed that the jewellery was duplicate/fake, informed police. 

The Panjim Police immediately through their sources and intelligence collected the information through CCTV footage and apprehended accused persons and recovered all the gold articles taken by them within 24 hours of committing the crime. 

Both the accused have been remanded in two days of police custody by the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Panjim.
