Parallel road at Cortalim approved

PWD says the work will be tendered and completed in one month; Heavy traffic from Margao to be diverted to Zuarinagar from Verna-Birla NH-17B junction

MARGAO: The work on the parallel road to the Cortalim-Verna stretch on the Zuari bridge work site has been approved. The PWD Roads Division expects the same to be tendered and completed in one month’s time. 
The Executive Engineer of Roads Division informed that the PWD has decided to have two diversions one for light motor vehicular traffic and the second for heavy vehicles. 
The PWD has finalised the route parallel to Railway track for light traffic. The filling and construction of this road will cost at least Rs 17 crore to the exchequer. All two-wheelers and four-wheelers will be diverted by this route. 
The heavy traffic will be diverted from the NH-17B junction (Verna Industrial Estate-Birla) to Zuarinagar, Airport Junction, Chicalim Sancoale and towards Cortalim. 
The PWD Executive Engineer LB Naik told Herald, that they did not require to acquire any agriculture land for the alternate road. “The road will be ready in one month,” he said. 
The new Zuari bridge is 57% complete. At present the erection of the top platforms of the bridge has reached the Cortalim stretch. The construction of the central piers of the river section too is underway.
