PONDA: With the State government approving the commencement of classes in physical mode for Classes VII and VIII from Thursday (November 25) onwards, the Ponda Market on Wednesday witnessed a rush of parents and their children for purchasing school uniforms

It may be recalled that the announcement to start classes in physical mode for Classes VII and VIII from Thursday was made by Education Director Bhushan Savoikar on Monday.

The owners of the shops in the Ponda market selling readymade uniforms and cloth made brisk business.

Some parents purchased readymade uniforms while others bought the cloth. A parent said they spent Rs 1,200 on uniform, which normally costs Rs 800 including stitching charges.

Meanwhile, a school headmaster said, “Uniforms are not compulsory at present. We will welcome students without uniforms. Learning in physical mode is important. We know that parents’ income has been hit due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We will give students sufficient time to stitch their uniforms.”
