SANGUEM: Irked over authorities failure to depute an additional teacher at the Government Primary School, Kalay-Sanguem despite frequent requests, the parents led by sarpanch Kishor Gauns Dessai on Monday ‘gheraoed’ the Sanguem ADEI demanding immediate deputation of an additional teacher at the school.
The parents accused the Government officials of being negligent by taking the students from the remote villages for granted.
The parents accompanied by Dessai marched to the Sanguem ADEI office and sought an explanation over the failure to depute an additional teacher despite they demanding for the same since last year.
Dessai informed that the school has 85 students and the decent enrollment was due to their efforts and on account of their door-to-door visit to convince the parents to send their children to the village school. However, with the negligent attitude of the department, the parents are now thinking the other way around and wonder whether they should continue to send their wards to the school next year.
The school currently has two regular teachers and a para-teacher as against the requisite four regular teachers and additional para-teacher, Dessai informed adding that the para-teacher teaches English while the regular teachers take up other subjects.
The present deputation of only two regular teachers for four classes is insufficient and they are unable to handle the 85 students, Dessai claimed and added that one of the teachers had proceeded on a long leave last year. But the department has not recruited a new teacher in her place till date.
ADEI Shirodkar assured to provide additional teacher in the coming days. However, the parents were not ready to listen to ADEI’s assurance and sought an assurance from the office of the Director of Education. Shirodkar called up the higher official and allowed Dessai talk to Deputy Director of Education Bhagat.
Dessai conveyed the parents’ grievances to Bhagat, who assured immediate deputation of an additional teacher at the school. Acting on the Bhagat’s assurance, Sanguem ADEI Shirodkar assured the parents that he would depute an additional teacher to the school by Wednesday.
