VASCO: Over hundred Goan workers and another 200 staffers working at the former Park Hyatt and now ITC (Indian Trading Corporation) hotel in Arossim Cansaulim, breathed sigh of relief on Wednesday as the ITC has promised to retain their jobs at the hotel while acquiring it.
The ITC on Wednesday acquired the Park Hyatt hotel from the Blue Coast Hotels Company. The two companies were locked in a court battle for several years after the ITC acquired the property in an auction held by Industrial Finance Corporation of India (IFCI). The property was won by ITC for Rs 541 crore in 2015. The Blue Coast Hotels had challenged the sale of the property by IFCI to ITC, but in March 2018 the Supreme Court upheld process paving way for handover of the hotel.
The 45 acre property is presently manned by over 300 staff of which 30% are Goans.
ITC Executive Director Nakul Anand while in an interaction with the staffers of former Park Hyatt said, “There is no plan of renovation of the hotel and not one job will be lost here. We will protect all of you and the offer letters will be given today.”
He further said that they are in the process to get the earlier licences transferred in the new name which will happen in next 10 days.
