CURCHOREM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has assured to build a new double-lane bridge between Paroda and Avedem in Quepem.
Parrikar gave the assurance to locals after visiting Paroda to inspect the dilapidated Paroda-Avedem Bridge on Tuesday evening. The chief minister’s visit to Paroda took place on the very day that Herald had highlighted the precarious condition of the bridge.
Residents had complained that the bridge would get flooded during every monsoon season and the barriers would invariably break when the bridge was submerged due to heavy rains.
After listening to the grievances of the locals, Parrikar assured that he would construct a new bridge within seven months after the monsoon gets over. He also promised to build a seven-and-half metre wide double-lane bridge and asked his officials to commence the groundwork in this direction.
Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral, Sarpanch Shanti Mascarenhas, Deputy Sarpanch Krishna Dessai, and other panch members were also present during the chief minister’s visit.
