He had to cut short his Goa visit and cancelled all his state appointments following the terror attack in Uri sector in Kashmir that killed 17 soldiers.
The Defence Minister also visited the injured jawans at the hospital. Parrikar had rushed to Srinagar to take stock of the situation after four suspected Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists struck the administrative base of the army’s 10 Dogra regiment at Uri in Baramulla district.
“The Defence Minister was briefed about the Uri terror attack and the counter-operation in which the terrorists were neutralised,” an army official said.
Parrikar, who had arrived in Goa on September 16 evening, was supposed to be in his home state for a few days. However, on Sunday he took a special flight to Delhi early morning.
“Parrikar has rushed to oversee the situation after the terror attack. He has cancelled all his Goa appointments scheduled today,” BJP Goa chief Vinay Tendulkar confirmed.
Meanwhile, Parrikar arrived at the Chinar Corps Headquarters of the army at Badami Bagh in the evening where senior army officials briefed him, he added. The Defence Minister also visited the 92 Base Hospital of the army where he was briefed about the condition of the injured soldiers who were undergoing treatment there.
The Defence Minister had on Saturday morning inaugurated the free medical camp in Goa organized by the party to mark the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Parrikar, who had addressed core workers in Panjim on Saturday was supposed to chair the meeting of the BJP Mahila Morcha in the morning followed by another meeting of Yuva Morcha in the evening today, which were held in the run up to the 2017 State Assembly elections.
The former chief minister was expected to be in Goa till September 22, when Union Minister for Shipping and party Goa desk in-charge Nitin Gadkari is arriving to hold party’s first meeting ahead of polls.
