PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar questioned the presence of non-Goan honorary officers of the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) in the State. He stopped short of accusing them of creating the beef issue that led to the temporary halt of beef import over the last weekend.
“Don’t we have anyone in Goa who is concerned about animal welfare that people from Delhi have to come here? There are so many organisations in Goa,” he stated.
Questioning the motive of their presence in Goa, Parrikar said, “Are there no illegal slaughter houses in Delhi? If they are so concerned about the welfare then they should first clean up their area where they stay and then come to Goa.”
Reiterating that no individual or group will be allowed to mess with the beef trade in Goa, he said, “We will act against illegal slaughter and no illegal slaughter will be permitted. However, we will not let anyone interfere with the legal trade being carried in Goa.”
