“My efforts would be to bring in some defence related projects to Goa,” the former chief minister said while addressing the gathering at the foundation stone laying ceremony for a new hospital at Mandur.
Parrikar said that the Union Ministry is committed towards construction of 70,000 houses under marriage accommodation project (MAP) for armed forces by 2018.
“Under Vajpayee government the proposal to have MAP was conceived. Out of total two lakh, 70,000 were supposed to be built in the second phase. Subsequent governments failed to complete the project and in last ten years, 5,000 flats were completed,” Parrikar said.
“In one year of Modi government, 16,000 were completed for MAP. Next year 30,000 houses will be completed and by 2018 all the 70,000 houses will be built. The second phase will be completed in 2018,” the defence minister said.
Parrikar said that roads leading to the borders are also being completed at the cost of Rs 2 lakh crore. “Few roads were getting completed at the rate of one foot a day. The work on hard rock has slowed down. We provided them automatic drilling machine. Now 10-12 feet of roads are completed daily. We aim to complete 25 feet of road a day,” he added.
Referring to the controversies surrounding his statements in New Delhi, Parrikar said opposition parties which can’t point out any fault in the government are resorting to such unwanted controversies. “The opposition is jealous of our performance and hence make such statements,” he added.
The Defence minister refused to comment on any other defence related issue stating that he will not speak to media for next six months.
