This is followed by PG in Chemistry where students’ intake capacity is restricted to 72, while seats for other PG courses are fixed between 20 and 60. The least number of 10 seats each are reserved for French and Portuguese languages, followed by 12 seats for MTech in computer science, 15 seats each for Philosophy, International Studies and Electronics, and Marine Microbiology having 16 seats. The academic year for 2015-16 began on June 15.
The university offers PG courses in over 26 departments in addition to PhD programme, research studentship, merit studentship and free studentship.
GU’s academic council will decide on increase in students’ intake capacity at various undergraduate courses after June 30, when Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education will announce results of HSSC supplementary exams.
Several colleges had moved GU informing that admission seekers escalated in the last month even as the admission process will continue till June-end. GU officials took up the matter on priority following the apprehension of possible shortage of seats. A total of 1,347 HSSC students – who failed in maximum two subjects – applied to re-appear for the examination, of which some answered to improve their overall pass percentage.
However, it has been noticed that students prefer reputed colleges rather than other institutions resulting in an imbalance over the distribution of eligible students across all colleges.
