PANJIM: Nearly 15 months after former Goa Governor O P Kohli accorded consent to The Goa (Abolition of proprietorships, titles and grants of lands) Bill, 2014; the State government assured Mayem villagers that they would get ownership of their houses and titles of lands they posses before 2016-end.
In his Liberation Day speech at Campal on Saturday, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar stated that 1182 structures have been identified and registered under the new legislation.
“There are several questions concerning the State like the evacuee property issue. To give Mayem villagers their rights, the government introduced the Bill in the Assembly (in March 2014) that was subsequently passed and later notified (after Governor’s consent). We are now in the process to return the land to the concerned families,” he said.
North Collector Nila Mohanan, along with the surveyors was tasked with the job to identify the structures such as houses, religious institutions, cemetery,  ground, etc in the jurisdiction. On completion of the survey, the identified structures were registered.
