PERNEM: Posters of music parties on the occasion of Women’s Day (Wednesday) are seen put up everywhere in Pernem’s coastal region.
Despite the restrictions over playing music, the parties are being organised along the Ashvem-Mandrem-Morjim stretch without obtaining required permits. When contacted, the Pernem PI Dattaram Raut said that nobody has been given the permit to organise the parties.

Under the garb of tradition, the parties on the occasion of Holi are also being held, which is causing traffic congestion.
Locals have constantly demanded action on parties which, despite the court orders, continue to play loud music till late night and disrupt the locals’ sleep. Not a single party was held during the elections when code of conduct was in place and locals were hoping for the same even after the polls.
Despite the Morjim and Mandrem beaches being recognised as sensitive zones for the Olive Ridley turtles who lay their eggs here, organisers continue to organise parties without obtaining licenses. This has also put tremendous stress on the traffic, which is already mismanaged most of the time.
Meanwhile, a local resident from Junaswada, Mandrem Agnel Fernandes had filed a complaint at Pernem police station regarding the noise pollution along the coast and expressed displeasure over the officials not able to take any action.
