PANJIM: The State police have advised people to exercise restraint while posting content on social media, as several instances of morphed and old videos have come to the fore. The law enforcing agency has warned of penal action against the violators.

Activist Sudip Dalvi was arrested on Saturday for allegedly spreading hatred through his Facebook account. He will be in police custody till Monday. In another instance, the police have let off an individual with a warning and the social account holder has withdrawn the hatred post.
“Instances have been noticed wherein people have morphed old video clips and tried to project them as related to current events particularly police beating certain individuals. Such content has the potential to cause disaffection among communities and tear apart the social fabric of society. Certain individuals have been identified and warned to be careful in future. Any repetition of such conduct would invite penal action,” Inspector General of Police Jaspal Singh said.
He reiterated his advice for the people to verify the authenticity of the content stating it can be easily searched on Google by typing out the keywords about the said post.
“No unverified content be posted or forwarded. The top most priority at this time is to contain the spread of COVID-19 by unitedly fighting against the disease. Any inflammatory content can divert attention of the administration and Police forces who are actively engaged in war against the COVID-19,” Singh added.
Urging people to not believe in rumours, they are also asked to contact Police Control Room at 112 or SP/ Police Control Room Pankaj Kumar Singh at 7875756016 for complaint/assistance.
