Per-Seraulim locals stop pipe laying project

MARGAO: Agitated residents of Per-Seraulim on Saturday stopped work on the underground water pipeline in protest against the damage caused to the telephone and water pipelines.

The residents also took strong exception to the diversion of traffic on the football ground, claiming that the ground has been left damaged by vehicular traffic.
The residents took to the streets on Saturday as their telephones went dead and they received erratic water supply since work on the pipeline laying work commenced last week. A resident Cristina Rebello pointed that the work has commenced without the necessary permission from the panchayat body. “The residents were taken aback when work commenced in their residential locality without the installation of boards. The ongoing work has damaged our water pipeline and the telephone line,” she said.
Former sarpanch Agnelo D’Silva said traffic has been diverted on the football ground without any permission leaving the ground damaged. “We do not know who will repair the ground or compensate to take up the repair work. The roadside drain has also been damaged,” he claimed.
A company engineer Prem Kumar, however, claimed that though the ongoing work might have damaged the water and telephone lines, they have got it repaired simultaneously – a claim hotly disputed by the local residents.
