PERNEM: Siddhesh Pednekar was elected unopposed as the new chairperson of Pernem Municipal Council giving him the rare honour to be the first mayor from the Scheduled Caste community to occupy the prestigious seat.
Former chairperson Sinai Desai had resigned to pave way for the new chairperson as per the mutual agreement and since then the post was lying vacant.
Since Pednekar was the only one to file his nomination for the post, the Presiding Officer Pernem SDO Deepak Vaigankar declared Pednekar elected unopposed as the new chairperson during a special meeting conveyed in the office of the municipality.
