Pernem gets first plant to turn plastic waste into fuel

PERNEM: The foundation stone for the first plant that will turn plastic waste into fuel was laid on Thursday in Pernem. Dy Chief Minister Francis Ds’Souza laid the stone in the presence of Environment Minister Rajendra Arlekar, Elvis Gomes and others.

Speaking on the occasion Arlekar said, “Plastic is a product which takes many years to degrade. The 3 Rs are very important – Reduce, Recycle and Reuse. We need to reduce the use of plastic, recycle it through this kind of a plant and reuse as it is a reusable product which can be used for something or the other. If we implement these 3 Rs it won’t be difficult to keep Goa and our environment pollution free.”
The plant will be operated by MK Aromatics that was represented by its director Dr Mahesh Merchant at the ceremony. The estimated cost of this project is Rs 15 crore.
It will use technology called Polymer Eechnology which converts synthetic plastic into hydrocarbons using transverse flow catalytic conversion methodology. This polymer energy technology and process are free from any kind of emission, liquid and solid effluents and thus environment friendly.
