PANJIM: Refuting speculation that a person had died due to the vaccine effect, Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) Dean Dr Shivanand Bandekar said the person died due to chronic kidney disease.

Bandekar was asked about the case and if the post mortem report was out.

“This patient was having a chronic kidney disease. He did not die of vaccination. We are waiting for his chemical reports. This fellow took a vaccine and the next day he was feverish. At the same time, he had an overload of fluids and he died of a cardiac event. Now, since he took a vaccine and he died within 24 hours, we did a post mortem as per the guidelines of the Centre. We have kept everything ready but his death is a coincidence and because of chronic kidney disease,” said Bandekar.

Bandekar, who is the COVID-19 Medical Officer, reiterated that the vaccine is safe and added that there is enough data out there of people who have taken the vaccine and are healthy.

He added that vaccines can help save lives and improve people’s immunity.

To another query, he said the authorities are trying to get more plasma donors in view of the rising cases.

He recalled the Mission Plasma initiative that was launched last year and added that recently there was a drop in number of donors as the number of cases had also dropped.
