PF seeks PM’s intervention in Mhadei, Mollem issues

PANJIM:  The Progressive Front of Goa has sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi intervention in the two crucial issues — diversion of Mhadei River water and infrastructure projects in the protected areas of Mollem forest.

In their letter to the Prime Minister, the Front also pointed out to the recent “illegal” arrest of their members, including female, by Goa Police, during a peaceful protest outside the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant official residence.

“We have no faith in Dr Sawant and his government, therefore request you to look into the matter,” Adv Hrudaynath Shirodkar and Mahesh Mahambrey said in the memorandum.

“Hoping for immediate action to Save Mhadei and Save Mollem,” it added.

The members pointed out that the Progressive Front of Goa under the Banner of Save Mhadei Save Goa and Save Mollem Campaign had gone to the Chief Minister’s office to submit the memorandum.

“However the Chief Minister denied to meet us and further directed the police force to arrest us and we were arrested,” they said.

It is important to note that after being arrested the police didn’t had any instruction and we were taken for a ride by police for almost 45 minutes as the police didn’t had any instruction as to which police station we were supposed to be taken, Front said.
