MARGAO: Calling the murder of BJP leader Sonali Phogat a failure of law and order in Goa, South Goa Lok Sabha MP Francisco Sardinha on Friday urged the State government to stop taking the functioning of the Home Department for granted, as such cases affect tourist footfalls in the State.
Sardinha also demanded the immediate suspension of all the officials involved in the North Goa land scam and for the grabbed land to be returned to its rightful owners.
Taking a dig at the State’s BJP government, Sardinha said, “The government should understand that such incidents affect the tourism and hospitality industry, which is now the main revenue generating field after the ban on mining.”
He said a similar type of murder a few years ago had badly affected the tourism sector, as tourists from several European countries had stopped coming to Goa.
Meanwhile, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai called Chief Minister Pramod Sawant out on a statement he had made about Phogat’s death, calling it a heart attack before preliminary investigations were completed. “No doctor can be so brilliant to find out the cause of death by reading the news on WhatsApp. By jumping to uninformed and premature conclusions, Dr Pramod Sawant has brought suspicion to not only this sensitive case but also, once again, to his prefix,” he remarked.
