Piled up garbage may cause health hazard: SGPDA Chairman

MARGAO: The South Goa Planning and Development Authority has written to the Chief Officer of MMC regarding non-functioning of Baling machine in SGPDA Retail Market and the health hazard that it has created around. 

The SGPDA Chairman and the Member Secretary has brought to the notice of MMC that during routine inspection of market, along with Chairman a large amount of garbage has piled up in area near the Sulabh Toilet located at SGPDA parking and vegetable shed areas. It has piled due to non-functioning of the system of bailing machine installed by MMC.

Chairman has raised concern that this massive unattended garbage may lend to health hazard especially prevailing Covid-19 situation, and hence requested the MMC to initiate urgent action in lifting this unattended garbage piled from SGPDA Market to different location. 

As the government now plans for centralised treatment of garbage at Sonsodo, the fate of these facilities hangs in balance.
