VASCO: In view of forthcoming Republic Day celebration, the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) on Wednesday issued orders banning the sale and purchase, distribution and display of tri-colour made of recycled plastics. The MMC has warned of stern action against violation of its order.
Commenting on the decision, MMC Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes said, “The council has already taken a decision to ban plastic carry bags, other materials within its jurisdiction. It is noticed that during national importance day there is a misuse of plastics enormously. On January 26, August 15 and December 19 and few other occasions we have noticed lot of misuse of plastic flags. As January 26 is coming closer and in order to put up complete ban on sale of plastic flags, I have issued an order banning the sale and purchase, distribution and display of tri-colour made of recycled plastics and necessary directions have been issued to municipal staffs to take stern action against any violation of order.”
“I have also issued an advisory to the people that since national flag represents the hopes and aspirations of the people of the country and it should occupy a position of honour, the people should refrain from selling or buying plastic national flags,” he added.
